The ICON A5 is an American Light Sport Aircraft currently being developed by Icon Aircraft, that claims to bridge the gap between flying and other motorsports. Loaded with features like folding wings (so you can keep it in your garage) and seat belt-like parachutes (so you can ease the whole thing down to the ground), ICON Aircraft’s new light sport airplane might just be the ultimate joyride. The A5 travels to many trade shows a year preforming demonstrations and needed promotional videos to play in the background of their presentation areas. I worked with Timothy Seward in creating a countdown video for the demonstrations. We used After Effects and made several versions for the company to decide upon. We rearranged graphics from the Icon graphics package to make unique designs to be animated in the video. The videos above are the previews we sent to ICON of our concepts. The final promotional videos consisted of several loops and scenes totaling over 10 minutes.

Shark Food is an iPhone game I’ve been working on the past year with Blue Lobster Studios. It’s an intuitive touch-based game about a shark working his way back up the food chain after being turned into a helpless angelfish by a group of angry magical whales. There are over 25 challenging levels in over 5 oceanic zones. My role in the game was to create over 30 fully animated (swimming and eating) fish, game objects, items, and everything else that had to be moving on the screen. I also played a part in deciding the overall game direction, user interface, game play, and design. To create all the fish and objects, I used Illustrator and Photoshop. The look of the game was to mimic real life fish and surroundings, so I had to reference many of the fish designs directly from certain species of fishes. The game is available now at the iPhone app store, check it out!

‘Hard to Part’ is a self portrait study I did as a project for my psychology class. The assignment was to create imagery that reflects ourselves and the duality we have in our psyche. The image is mirrored because I feel like I don’t have two completely different sides of me, just the same side integrated in different areas. I tackle many different roles in my jobs, school, and personal life- but all reflect aspects of me, depending on the environment.

A Day at the Circus DVD is one of five DVD designs I produced for Jeanne Robinson Dance Art’s recital series. I was given a lot of creative freedom and worked around the title to create this circus theme. I used the specifications to determine the layout and how to arrange the content. The overall color scheme and presentation was realized by researching the ages and genders of the children involved in the recital. I didn’t want to make any of the layouts predominantly feminine because I knew there were male dancers as well. I also had to produce this same DVD design in another color scheme (not pictured) for an additional performance date with different dancers.

Television show B-Sides is currently in its 2nd season on cable network MYX. It is an entertainment news magazine that provides viewers with the latest music discoveries, in-depth artist interviews, performances and features on fashion, gaming, and lifestyle events. For promotional campaigns, I animated the lower thirds using After Effects. Using design specifications, storyboards, and design prototypes I presented several drafts to my colleagues for final approval.
The De Young Museum hosts an annual exhibit showcasing college students’ art. The theme for 2009 was Andy Warhol. Submissions were entered in a contest for museum entry and promotional artwork to be put on posters, flyers, etc. This piece called ‘Monroe Underground’ was chosen to be used to promote the event and was showcased in the gallery. The provocative imagery is a reflection of two pieces I most identify Warhol with- the Velvet Underground banana and Marilyn Monroe prints.

This is the final project for my Digital Identity class. My partner, Jen Van Der Henst, and I had to pick an existing brand and completely rebrand it. We chose the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco because we felt that it needed a modern, yet still traditional revamping. We developed extensive concept maps, analyzed the purpose of the project, prepared many new logo concepts for our classmates to help us choose from, created an extensive style guide, and web design layout.

Role: Identity, Logo, UX, and Web designer
